Theme and Goals

Testing is an extremely important activity part of software quality assurance, accounting for a large percentage of development costs. Therefore, it is necessary to automate software testing. This not only includes automated execution of tests, but also automatic test data selection and automatic evaluation of the test results. Whereas there is lot of research in the field of automatic test data generation, there is far less work regarding test oracles.

Recently, there has been some acitivty in the field of test evaluation. Several approaches have been proposed to overcome the oracle problem, such as model-based test oracles, log file analysis, metamorphic testing, symmetric testing, statistical hypotheses tests, as well as others. Although these solutions can be quite helpful, there remains a lot of research to do. Ideas have to be exchanged, and problems have to be identified, and solved. This is our motivation for organizing an event dedicated to testing oracles.

The objectives of this workshop are to bring together researchers, engineers, and practitioners to discuss and evaluate the latest challenges and breakthroughs in the field of test evaluation and to identify future trends and problems in this area. The combination of people from both academia and industry is intended to both help transfer problems from industry to academia and also to provide practical applications for theoretical research results.
