Summary

  Concluding a list of advantages and disadvantages of those two techniques. For more details on inspections see [Gilb94].

Advantages:

• All own developments  can be tested with them.
• They can be used in an early stage of the development and for small part of the software  product.
• Not only weaknesses of the program are detected, but also of the involved people. This can lead to a modest, and realistic self-estimation .
• All participants learn from the mistakes made. This helps to avoid those bugs in the future  .

Disadvantages:

• High expenses? The working time -- including the hours needed for the preparation -- of several highly qualified people is used up.
• Quarrel in the team can originate from criticism which is taken or meant personally.
• The source code of purchased modules is not always available.
• It is difficult to reproduce those tests.
• They depend a lot on the participant's qualification, self-confidence, and discipline.
• They might be a menace for the author . If this is ignored people might start to offer resistance to those tests.
