Specification

First of all, for each quarter and each year, the number of patients that have been medicated ambulant or stationary is quantified. Each patient is counted only once even if he has been treated multiple times. A patient counts as medicated if there is at least one entry in the table progression (verlauf)   in the appropriate period of time.

Then, for each quarter and each year, the percentage of male  patients  in relation to the total number of patients that have been treated in that period of time is quantified. Exactly, the male patients have a M in the field sex (geschl) in the table. diabetik

Next, the percentage of foreign  patients is computed for the same periods of time. A patient is assumed to be foreign, if a no has been entered in his field normal values apply (Normalwerte gelten) in the table diabetik.

Thereafter the distribution of types of diabetes mellitus is destined. The possible values are type I, type II and type III. Subgroups of those are ignored even if they have been entered. The type of diabetes mellitus is also saved in the table diabetik in the field diab_typ.

The last two pieces of information in this section is the patient's average age and their average duration of diabetes  mellitus . Those two numbers are calculated in the same way. First, for each quarter and each year, the latest entry in the table progression (verlauf)   is located for each patient. His age  is the while between that date and his date of birth (geb_dat) which is can be found in the table  diabetik. The beginning of his illness can also be looked up in that table in the field dia_dat. Finally, those whiles are added up, and divided by the number of patients medicated in that period.
