My
office
is at the Department
of Applied Information Processing where I am working as scientific
assistant since 1992. My main research
interests are in intelligent information systems (as e.g. needed in medical
context) and in data mining.
In 1997 I finished my Ph.D.
thesis building a
diabetes
information system now being used in about 500 hospitals and at GPs in
Germany, Switzerland and Austria. One main benefit of the system is a semi-annual
benchmarking
for each clinic comparing treatment outcome of patients with diabetes Typ
1. In 1999 we were able to compare data of 10,000 patients treated
at 91 diabetes units.
About 50% of all paediatric diabetes patients
in Germany are documented with the help of our information
system. On federal state level up to 90% of the
estimated number of patients up to the
age of 19 are found in the database. |
